Standard High Voltage Insulation Resistance Testers typically measure only Insulation Resistance (IR), Polarization Index (PI), and Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR). The ETCR3520 Series High Voltage Insulation Resistance Testers go beyond these capabilities. They also measure Step Test (STEP), Ramp Test (RAMP), and Dielectric Discharge Index (DD), providing a comprehensive solution for evaluating the insulation performance of test specimens.

1. Step Test (STEP)

The Step Test mode is an automated testing process. After starting the test, the output voltage increases in increments of 10% of the selected range voltage. The instrument records the insulation resistance value at each step. If the insulator has defects, its resistance value will decrease as the applied voltage increases. For a defect-free insulator, the insulation resistance remains relatively stable throughout the voltage increase.

2. Ramp Test (RAMP)

The Ramp Test mode is also an automated process. After initiation, the output voltage gradually ramps up to the selected range voltage. The instrument records the insulation resistance value every second during the ramp-up. For defective insulators, resistance will decrease as both the applied voltage and time increase. For insulators without defects, the insulation resistance remains largely constant during the voltage ramp.

3. Dielectric Discharge Index Test (DD)

This test is particularly suitable for diagnosing multi-layer insulation. It effectively identifies issues within multi-layer insulation by measuring the discharge current value one minute after test completion and the capacitance of the test object. A common recommendation is to charge at 500V for 30 minutes, then measure the capacitance and the residual current after 1 minute. Users can select the desired DD calculation formula when setting up the measurement mode.
